Gettin' fresh … in Northern Nevada

Snow Leopard Melon

Out at my CSA’s farm in Fallon, they know their melons.   I have always favored cantaloupe but, this season, my weekly CSA box has included all kinds of different melons that I have never heard of before in my life.   This week’s new taste test is the Snow Leopard Melon.

Right out of the box, it is gorgeous and unique.   Have you even seen one of these?

And, the name is accurate, it is snow white on the inside as well.

So, what does it taste like?   It’s texture is more like honeydew than cantaloupe and it has a lighter sweetness to it, almost like a pear.   Mmmmm.   Mmmmmm.    And, that makes it good for an afternoon treat at work today.   Oh, here’s a bonus photo of my lunch salad just for In Her Chucks.
