Fried Green Tomatoes
Once upon a time, I hated tomatoes. I think I have mentioned this before in other posts. But, just to be clear, I love fried green tomatoes. And, I would normally say that these are only properly done in the southern United States.
Nope. Not so. I figured out the secret.
It is this awesome cast iron pan that my hubby bought me for our sixth wedding anniversary present. (Google that — it’s sugar and iron. Go figure.)
It turns out that I knew it all along but I just didn’t remember it until now. My Grammy always cooked in cast iron. It makes a big taste difference. And, it might make be buffer to carry in those heavy CSA boxes each week. This is a seriously beefy skillet. Old ladies back in the day must have had some guns in those arms!
Anywhooo … there must be extra love in that pan because the combo of cast iron and cornmeal did the trick. Good stuff.
